Ballast Recycling/Incineration – At LEI, Inc., we believe this is the best option because the harmful substance in the ballast (located in the small capacitor and potting material) is incinerated and the remaining metals are cleaned and recycled preserving natural resources and lowering disposal costs.
Whole Ballast Incineration
This process wholly incinerates the ballast by a permitted TSCA incinerator. The metals are not reclaimed. This is a safe option but is more costly. This disposal is required for leaking ballasts.
This option does protect the environment to a certain extent but the generator still has potential environmental liability. This option is not preferable for companies who are concerned about long-term environmental risk.
